new sounds: tumbleweed stampede

Ben from Tumbleweed Stampede an alt-folkie troupe from Athens Georgia sent us over a new track of theirs, Snowmelt. Tally Ho! love garage stompers and blistering lo-fi but sometimes its good to sit back, take stock and listen to something a bit more chill. Snowmelt is the perfect soundtrack to the post gig blues, or hangover heartache, creaking along with Music from the Big Pink style homespun melodies and haunting vocals.

JAILL

Since signing to Sub Pop in December '09, Milwaukee's JAILL have been mighty busy.

After their debut There's No Sky (Oh My My) caught the ears of the ever-attentive folk at Sub Pop, Jaill duly signed and have been working on its follow up ever since.

That's How We Burn will be released in late July and the first fruit of this latest set is Everyone's Hip. A sprightly number that coasts along on the kind of schizophrenic southern rock riffs that recall early KOL in their pre-stadium jubilation.

Robyn Hitchcock & The Soft Boys

Robyn Hitchcock is one of a handful of my heroes that are still alive (rip Syd, Arthur and Alex). I love the man and for a young 'un i'm not shy of his later solo work as well as the awesome post punk power pop of his flagship band The Soft Boys.

Their debut Underwater Moonlight is an incredible blast through early Pink Floyd, pub rock, post punk and dodgy XTC-esque 80's psychedelia. It never stops. The harmonies, the jagged little guitar riffs and the obscurer than thou lyrics make the album purely a must have, needless to say, countless bands we've featured on this here blog wouldn't exist if it wasn't for old Robyn and his merry men.

You should check out Hitchcock's solo stuff too...Madonna of the Wasps is the new wave love song its stupid not to like!

pains of being pure at heart - say no to love

New Yorkers The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have announced the release of new stand alone single Say No to Love on June 7th.

It's a perfect summer jam and may even replace Dodgy's Staying Out for the Summer as a radio staple come the first signs of sun on a precious, over-precipitated island.

Oh and here's some shows the band will be playing in the UK and Europe throughout July

new sounds: Young Michelin

C'est Twee!

Young Michelin hail from France and you'll always find them in the kitchen at parties. Influenced by Tallulah Gosh and The Pastels, as well as more mainstream 80's rockers such as The Cure and The Smiths, they've just released their debut EP and whilst I've not got a clue how you can find the thing, i'd recommend trying.

Fergus & Geronimo

Denton, Texas, home of the dew soaked sounds of Midlake, but also the fertile punk grounds that nurtured crazed 60's soul/beat heads Fergus & Geronimo.

Their Harder Than It's Ever Been 7" released on Woodsist last year was an all too brief blast of unashamedly upbeat power pop with a garage bent and one of Tally Ho's favourite releases of 2009.

Well they're cutting the apron strings for a brief stint of shows here in Europe, with three shows lined up in London as well as a show at the Midi Festival in the French Riviera (23rd July 2001). Slick!

Only one of the London shows has been confirmed so far, White Heat at Madam JoJo's on 20th July but check their Myspace for updates.

Meanwhile you can download a copy of the aforementioned 7" here (for sampling purposes only - buy it if you dig it, and if you can find it!)

New Mantles!

San Francisco's finest, The Mantles have two new tracks streaming on their Myspace.

The tracks scream from the same primal rock n roll depths as their debut LP but this time there seems an added urgency, as if committing these songs to tape is their final act!

Cascades blisters any speakers that come within a five metre radius and Situations rolls with the same sinister end of the night vibes that propelled much of their long player.

No official word on when we'll see a physical release of this stuff but the anticipation starts now!
